Customer Technical Support Specialist

Up to £25000 per annum

Customer Technical Support Specialist: Cambridge: Microscopy/ Engineering/Mechanical/Electrical. Basic up to £25K.

A global leader in the design and manufacture of precision positioning devices, optical systems, automation solutions, and components is seeking a Customer Technical Support Specialist to join their marketing team. This is a very exciting time to join a very well established organisation, in the process of diversifying into other market and product areas.

The position of Technical Support Specialist is a second point of contact for existing users, Distributors, OEM and internal customers who need to help with products- being the 'glue' holding the Customer, Distributor and Company together. The purpose is to provide an excellent level of technical support to existing accounts and prospective customers. Tasks are as diverse as helping configure the correct systems for a given microscope to helping troubleshoot a complex problem with a system, or to hands on training with technicians from OEM Customers. The role is based in the Cambridge (UK) head office and will require occasional travel to Customer sites, both UK and international.

Key Duties:
*Be the second point of contact for customer technical problems, the 'go to' person
*Help debug system issues for customers and production personnel dealing with systems returned for service
*Advise on / raise customer returns, repairs and upgrades
*Help train OEM partner personnel handle, install, troubleshoot and maintain product
*Manage the Demonstration equipment, raising loan agreements, assembling and testing the equipment, and checking it on return


Secondary Duties:
*Assist with Sales Administration tasks to cover busy periods / holidays
*Assist with Tradeshows
*Assist with training of colleagues
*Any other tasks as reasonably required


Person Specification:
*Degree level qualified (or equivalent) in engineering, physics or a life science area
*Self motivated, self disciplined, and able to work unsupervised
*Good written and verbal communication in English - able to communicate complex technical details clearly and simply to all
*Technical understanding of mechanical, electromechanical and electrical systems. Able to help customers understand technical products and to help them trouble shoot and identify issues.
*Accurate worker with attention to detail and a methodical, systematic approach
*Patient, with good listening and questioning skills, able to appropriately set and manage customer expectations
*Able to calm a difficult customer/situation.
*IT literate, competent with basic data analysis in Excel, documents in Word


Advantageous to have, but not required:
*Knowledge and experience of optics and in particular microscopy
*Experience in scripting / coding
*Commercial awareness
*International shipping experience
*Competence in other languages
