Monthly Jobs Summary Courtesy of Markit Economics

The REC reports that more than a quarter of employers (28%) plan to give workers a pay rise this year and also reveals the proportion of employers planning to expand their workforces over the next 3 months is growing with 78% saying they will take on more permanent staff.

Data from the Office for National Statistics also showed that job vacancies were up 18.5% on an annual basis in the three months to February.

Although the rate of growth of permanent placements eased back a bit.

Also, according to Markit, March saw a steeper decline in candidate availability alongside the marked increase in vacancies.

Permanent salaries are also increasing at the fastest rate since 2007 with one of the driving factors being a candidate shortage leading to competition between employers for quality candidates.

The South led the upturn in permanent salaries, followed by the Midlands. The slowest increase was recorded in the North.
